Contains the following types of materials: photographs, post cards. Covers the following wars: World War I (WWI), World War II (WWII). Contains photographs of the following unit: Mountain Infantry/Ski Troops. General description of the collection: The John L. Spencer photograph collection includes miscellany of WWI subjects: An unidentified group of soldiers; a set of post cards - "Life in Our Army"; troops training at Camp McClellan; two photos of Robert Buckner, USN; a troop of French Cavalry. The remainder are Mountain Infantry and Ski Troops training at Jolon, California, Fort Lewis, Washington and Camp Hale, Colorado in 1942-1943. These are excellent photos showing the various training segments these rugged troops had to master to become efficient in the skills of mountain terrain combat. This collection is excellent material showing a little known tactical organization of the U.S. Army.
